Washington Commanders:
Thanks in large part to the performance of the defensive line, the Commanders had one of the greatest defenses in the NFL last season, finishing third in yards allowed (304.6) and eighth in points allowed (20.2). Despite the absence of fellow first-round pick Chase Young, Daron Payne, Jonathan Allen, and Montez Sweat combined for 27 sacks.
Young is expected to make a comeback in 2023, but he will miss the opening week due to a stinger. In the meanwhile, Payne, Allen, and Sweat will be in the starting lineup, encouraging Cardinals quarterback Joshua Dobbs to start with Kyler Murray (knee) on the PUP list. In terms of offensive efficiency, Antonio Gibson and Brian Robinson Jr. will try to wear out the Cardinals run defense, which in 2022 allowed 4.5 yards per carry, good for 21st place in the NFL.
Arizona Cardinals:
Under new general manager Monti Ossenfort and head coach Jonathan Gannon, the Cardinals are in the midst of a rebuilding process. Due to Kyler Murray's extended absence, Joshua Dobbs, a seasoned player, will take the starting position going forward, according to the organization. Dobbs completed 40 of 68 throws for 411 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions in his two starts for the Steelers in 2022.
Free safety in Arizona One of the best defensive playmakers in the NFL today is still Budda Baker. The former Washington player selected in the second round has been selected to the Pro Bowl five times and All-Pro three times. He can consistently make plays that change the course of the game and has a nose for the ball.
