San Francisco 49ers what to watch:

After missing the most of last week's game due to a shoulder injury, veteran receiver Deebo Samuel—whose leadership and punishing running style make him important to the 49ers offense—looks to be back on pace to play on Sunday. Even if Samuel isn't playing at full power on Sunday, his presence as a kind of decoy will force the Detroit defense to account for him and may open up opportunities for other playmakers. Many onlookers noticed that the offense seemed out of sync without Samuel in the lineup.

Despite missing two games during the regular season due to injuries, the fifth-year player had one of his best seasons. The South Carolina graduate hauled in 60 passes for 7 touchdowns and 892 yards. In addition, he scored five touchdowns on the ground and ran for 225 yards, which is the second-highest total of his career.

Detroit Lions what to watch:

For Lions quarterback Jared Goff, there are a lot of motivating elements at play. He has acknowledged that he would like to silence skeptics who think he won't measure up on the big stage. After the 2018 season and a Super Bowl participation, Goff was famously moved by the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for Matthew Stafford, who won a title in his first season playing quarterback for Los Angeles.

As Goff finished 4-16-1 in his first 21 starts with Detroit, many people questioned if he would ever be able to start in the NFL. However, Goff's performance this season may have been his best overall, signal-caller Dan Campbell of the Lions has maintained that he thinks the quarterback is skilled enough to lead the team to a Super Bowl. Furthermore, it's important to highlight Goff's return to his Bay Area roots. He excelled as a collegiate quarterback for the California Golden Bears and was a standout high school player in the San Francisco area before being selected first overall in the NFL Draft.
