New England Patriots what to watch:

In the midst of a disappointing season for New England and speculation about Bill Belichick's long-term future with the team, the Patriots surprised everyone last Thursday night by winning in Pittsburgh. In order to win, backup quarterback Bailey Zappe, who is taking over for the unsuccessful Mac Jones, threw for 240 yards and three touchdown passes in the first half. His performance the week before was nothing like this.

Veteran running back Ezekiel Elliott had a huge game for New England last week while starting running back Rhamondre Stevenson was out by injury. Against Pittsburgh, the former Cowboys rusher amassed 68 yards of total rushing yardage in addition to seven receptions for 72 yards and a score. Given the uncertainty surrounding Stevenson's fitness for Sunday's match, Elliott would be expected to carry the weight once more against a formidable Kansas City defense.

Kansas City Chiefs what to watch:

It's uncommon for Kansas City to experience a slump of this kind during the Andy Reid-Patrick Mahomes era. In their last four games, the Chiefs have suffered three losses, including two at Arrowhead Stadium. Averaging just 230 yards per game over his last six games, Mahomes has struggled recently, lacking a real No. 1 wide receiver in his arsenal. The Chiefs' attack will need to be far more effective than it has been lately if they hope to win the Super Bowl again in February.

In the passing game, Mahomes, as usual, looks early and frequently to Travis Kelce, his future Hall of Fame tight end. In terms of tight end seasons, Kelce is enjoying a good one with 80 receptions, 896 yards, and five touchdowns. Although Kelce is expected to reach 1,000 for the eighth consecutive season, he hasn't been the reliable playmaker that Chiefs fans have come to expect in recent years.
