Minnesota Vikings what to watch:
Despite losing to Cincinnati in overtime recently, Minnesota is still very much in the running for the playoffs. Entering Week 16, the Vikings have the tiebreaker over Los Angeles, Seattle, and New Orleans, and are presently ranked sixth in the NFC. In the previous week's defeat to the Bengals, quarterback Nick Mullens finished 26 of 33 passes for 303 yards and two touchdowns, making history as the fourth quarterback to start for Minnesota this year.
In his first full game back after recovering from a hamstring injury, star wide receiver Justin Jefferson caught seven passes for 84 yards, and Jordan Addison caught six passes for 111 yards and two scores. In lieu of Alexander Mattison, backup running back Ty Chandler started and amassed a career-high 132 rushing yards and a touchdown. The Vikings have defeated the Detroit Lions five times in a row at home, and they have covered the spread six times in their previous seven NFC opponents games.
Detroit Lions what to watch:
Against Minnesota, Detroit has covered the spread five times in a row, and this season, they are simply the superior club. Quarterback Jared Goff completed 24 of 34 throws for 278 yards and five touchdowns as the Lions defeated the Broncos 42-17. Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown had seven grabs for 112 yards and a touchdown, while tight end Sam LaPorta continued to have an excellent season with five receptions for 56 yards and three scores.
With an 11-3 record against the spread in their last 14 games versus NFC North clubs, the Lions are well-positioned to win their first division crown since 1993. This season, Minnesota has used four different quarterbacks; Nick Mullens threw two picks in his first start last week. The Detroit offense, which is third in the NFL in yards per game, presents a challenge to the Vikings, who have only covered the spread once in their previous four games.
