New York Jets what to watch:
Over the first three weeks, New York's attack has been inconsistent, but a combination of young, skill players could be very dangerous. Breece Hall, a running back, is averaging 5.9 yards per carry in 2023. In 2022, as a rookie, he scored 97.2 yards from scrimmage a game and gained 5.8 yards per rush. Garrett Wilson, a wide receiver, took home the 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year title.
From there, the Jets boast a strong and skilled defense that placed in the top four in the NFL in terms of passing, total, and scoring defense the previous campaign. This season, the Jets have allowed just one running touchdown, while opponents have only scored scores on 37.5% of their red zone possessions.
Kansas City Chiefs what to watch:
Although Kansas City has its advantages, the Chiefs should also gain from New York's obvious offensive difficulties. Zach Wilson, the quarterback for the Chiefs, is the focal point of New York's problems; he has the lowest passer rating in the NFL for three seasons running. The Chiefs also have a strong defense. In terms of points allowed per game, points allowed per drive, scoring percentage allowed, and yards per play allowed this season, Kansas City ranks among the top five teams in the NFL.
Along with ranking sixth in the league in total defense and passing defense, the Chiefs also have exceptional numbers in terms of third-down and red zone efficiency allowed. The Chiefs can theoretically stack up against the run, and they have only allowed two throwing touchdowns this season, so the formula seems solid. Against Kansas City, opponents are only averaging 102.7 running yards per game and 3.9 yards per carry, with All-Pro defensive lineman Chris Jones offering strong middle-of-the-pack resistance.
