San Francisco 49ers what to watch:
With home field advantage and the No. 1 seed secured, San Francisco can afford to be cautious. With 1,459 yards, star running back Christian McCaffrey leads the league in rushing. However, he is out due to a minor calf injury sustained last week against Washington. Although coach Kyle Shanahan stated that several other starters will play to prevent potential rust after a two-week vacation, quarterback Brock Purdy will be rested.
San Francisco is fortunate to have backup quarterback Sam Darnold, who has years of starting experience and has performed admirably in the limited action he has seen this season. In 2023, Darnold is 12 for 20 passing for 108 yards, one touchdown, and one pick. With some big stars going to be absent, this game will probably resemble a preseason game. San Francisco wants to keep up the momentum before their first round bye next week.
Los Angeles Rams what to watch:
With their star wide receiver, Cooper Kupp, starting the season on injured reserve and an elderly quarterback in Matthew Stafford, the Rams had low hopes going into the 2023–24 campaign. However, they have received noteworthy support from unanticipated sources, including rookie wide receiver Puka Nacua and second-year running back Kyren Williams. Next weekend, in the NFL Playoffs Wild Card round, Los Angeles' season will continue.
The Rams may decide to bench Stafford and other important players for Week 18, since veteran backup Carson Wentz is expected to start against San Francisco. Nacua is 28 yards short of the NFL's all-time rookie receiver record of 1,473 yards, established in 1960, thus he probably won't be playing for very long.
