Denver Broncos what to watch:
Though that was on the road and New England is far from a playoff-caliber team, Denver had a difficult week versus the Lions. The Patriots have scored fewer than 20 points in 11 of their 14 games, with an average of only 13.3 points per contest. Last week, Russell Wilson passed for over 220 yards for the second week in a row. He also has 24 touchdown passes and 8 interceptions. The Patriots allow 21.4 points per game and rank 29th in the NFL in terms of sacks and takeaways.
With 11 touchdown passes and one interception in his career against the Patriots during the regular season, Wilson is 3-0 against them. Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton combined for 145 receiving yards against the Lions; this season, Sutton has 770 yards and 10 touchdowns. A strong Lions squad took advantage of the Broncos defense, but from Weeks 7–14, the defense gave up just 15.6 points per contest. During that time, the Broncos had the best turnover margin in the NFL at plus-10.
New England Patriots what to watch:
Denver won't have an easy night, even though the defense hasn't played up to par. New England still has Belichick in charge. With 308 yards allowed per game, the Patriots rank sixth in the league in overall defense. They are especially strong against the run. With just 3.1 yards per run, opponents are averaging 85 rushing yards per game—the lowest in the NFL.
Bailey Zappe, the quarterback for the Patriots, has the ability to produce big games, and Denver has one of the weakest defenses in the league. Two weeks prior, the second-year player led the team to a 21–18 victory over the Steelers with three touchdowns and 224 yards of passing. Last week, he amassed 141 yards in the first half, but the formidable Chiefs defense adjusted.
