New England Patriots what to watch:

Given that the quarterback hasn't improved much, if at all, in his third season as a pro, Mac Jones' tenure with the Patriots is precarious. Jones completed 19 of 29 throws for 161 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in last week's loss at Miami. Coach Bill Belichick will probably stick with the former Alabama quarterback for the length of the season because he doesn't have any other viable options, even though Jones' long-term future with New England appears to be in doubt.

Running backs Rhamondre Stevenson and Ezekiel Elliott will probably need to succeed against a Commanders defense that allows 117.4 yards of rushing per game if the Patriots are to win this game. Leading receiver Kendrick Bourne will be used more in the passing game since he is sidelined for the whole campaign due to a knee ailment.

Washington Commanders what to watch:

Sam Howell, the quarterback for the Commanders, is still improving under Washington's system even though he leads the NFL in sacks taken (41). He completed 39 of 52 throws for 397 yards last week against Philadelphia, with four touchdowns and one interception. Howell has led an offense that averages 21.4 points per game this season with 13 touchdown passes from his passing and one touchdown from his rushing game.

The fact that Washington traded starting defensive linemen Chase Young (to San Francisco) and Montez Sweat (to Chicago) prior to the league's trade deadline on Tuesday raises questions about if the team is given up on 2023 and making plans for the future.
